Hell Yes。 Will I keep it and refer to it when I need to make a purification spell or a protection oil, yes。 Will I personally take this as a go to for smudging? No。 But I will take it as a go to for her chili recipe and how to construct and deconstruct protection wards。 Definitely worth the read。 I'll also have reviews up for her other books, The Green Witch: Your Complete Guide to The Natural Magic of Herbs, Flowers, Essential Oils and More; as well as her other publication The Witche's Book Of Self Care: Magical Ways to Pamper, Soothe, and Care for Your Body and Spirit。 。。。more

Good book for beginners!

I’m not keen on how the author perpetuates the idea that exclusively women are witches, it makes me a bit uncomfortable to be honest。 Also, not a great idea to promote smudging to non-natives when it’s a sacred practice 🥲

Green Witch seemed more about spirituality while House Witch seemed more like Wicca and appropriating other religions。 It had some handy materials but it really rubbed me wrong that it goes through smudging and casually mentions that it’s important to American indigenous people but makes no effort to give context to what that means。

A great introduction to hearthcraft and a more encompassing brand of home witchcraft & spirituality。 I appreciated the author didn't frame everything as super "woo-woo," new age manifestations。 Just simply reframing how you would normally do things around your home with a bit more intention and care。 Of course there were helpful rituals, blessings, and recipes (food and non-food) throughout, but it was taking the mundane and making it spiritual, without diving too deep off either non-denominatio A great introduction to hearthcraft and a more encompassing brand of home witchcraft & spirituality。 I appreciated the author didn't frame everything as super "woo-woo," new age manifestations。 Just simply reframing how you would normally do things around your home with a bit more intention and care。 Of course there were helpful rituals, blessings, and recipes (food and non-food) throughout, but it was taking the mundane and making it spiritual, without diving too deep off either non-denominational/religious side of the fence。 It focused on the spirituality rather than the religion。 。。。more

A delightful read that I would recommend to any witchy friends。 I appreciated the focus on weaving magic realistically into your everyday life rather than taking lots of time out for ritual。 The theme of practicality and building a "spiritual home base" spoke to me as someone who struggles to keep a regular practice。 The author encourages working with what you have and weaving spirituality into the everyday activities of home, and that's something I can really see myself doing。This book is obvio A delightful read that I would recommend to any witchy friends。 I appreciated the focus on weaving magic realistically into your everyday life rather than taking lots of time out for ritual。 The theme of practicality and building a "spiritual home base" spoke to me as someone who struggles to keep a regular practice。 The author encourages working with what you have and weaving spirituality into the everyday activities of home, and that's something I can really see myself doing。This book is obviously well-researched but its tone is lighthearted and fun。 I enjoyed the exploration of hearth-based beliefs throughout the world and history, and I think I'll enjoy researching that and coming up with my own traditions。 There is also a great exercise for sensing the energy of the house room by room and how to work with and work on that energy to create a feeling of sacred space。It's a short and helpful little volume that's worth a read if you're interested in any kind of alternative spirituality。 While it's got a rather "witchy" focus, the theme is distinctly spiritual rather than magical and would benefit anyone who is taking an interest in developing that part of their life。 。。。more

Rating: 3 stars - I liked itIn The House Witch, you will learn how to incorporate your house into your own magical space。 With well defined chapters and subsections, the information that Arin provides is extremely easy to understand and follow。 She offers ideas on how to create magical recipes and spell, protect and purify your hearth and home, learn the skills of the cauldron, call upon the kitchen gods and goddess, and many other things。 While this book was very interesting and informative, I Rating: 3 stars - I liked itIn The House Witch, you will learn how to incorporate your house into your own magical space。 With well defined chapters and subsections, the information that Arin provides is extremely easy to understand and follow。 She offers ideas on how to create magical recipes and spell, protect and purify your hearth and home, learn the skills of the cauldron, call upon the kitchen gods and goddess, and many other things。 While this book was very interesting and informative, I felt there wasn’t a lot that I could apply to my own path and practice。 Because of this I found myself skimming a lot of sections that weren’t useful for me, especially the candle and incense sections because this is a fragrance free household。 I did enjoy Arin’s writing style and formatting of this book。 The chapters had subsections which easily broke down the topic into manageable sections。 This made it easy to grasp the different aspects or applications for house witchery。 I prefer witchcraft books that do this because it makes it easier to find, and understand the information within。 Also as just a side note, this is written for beginners of home witchery, so don't expect complex ideas, spells or rituals。 Overall, this was an interesting book but not exactly a helpful book for my own practice。 I would recommend this book to those interested in learning more about home and hearth magic or for those who already do kitchen witchery。You can also find my reviews at Red-Haired Ash Reads。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this book。 Murphy-Hiscock discussed some interesting practices within hearthcraft and folklore, and how to incorporate them into the reader's own home and lifestyle。 I really liked that she provided some background information on what hearthcraft actually is, the different deities associated with it, and the history of it all, rather than just listing rituals and spells to perform in the home without any context。 I got some great ideas for how I interact with my home and some ne I really enjoyed this book。 Murphy-Hiscock discussed some interesting practices within hearthcraft and folklore, and how to incorporate them into the reader's own home and lifestyle。 I really liked that she provided some background information on what hearthcraft actually is, the different deities associated with it, and the history of it all, rather than just listing rituals and spells to perform in the home without any context。 I got some great ideas for how I interact with my home and some new rituals that I'm going to try based on the information in this book。 。。。more

Very SpecificThis book was a little specific, especially when going over intentions。 I get that most Pagans don't agree with hexes or controlling people but some people do it anyway。 I don't necessarily agree with some of the opinions that are implied, but overall it was an alright book to read。 Very SpecificThis book was a little specific, especially when going over intentions。 I get that most Pagans don't agree with hexes or controlling people but some people do it anyway。 I don't necessarily agree with some of the opinions that are implied, but overall it was an alright book to read。 。。。more

DNF: I am new to witchcraft and was keen to learn more but unfortunately this book failed to grab my attention。 Although it was interesting at some points I felt like it dragged on a bit with definitions and examples etc。 Maybe this is one I will pick up again later but I have books I’m more excited to read than this one。

This is a very helpful book for people like me who center their life around their home and their hearth and consider themselves a kitchen witch!

I've been consciously trying to not give books five stars unless I really truly mean it and I do mean it with this one。 As someone who is new to the practice of witch/hearthcraft, I found this book incredibly helpful and full of a lot of really good information。 If you're new to your practice and you want to incorporate it more into your home, I definitely recommend this title。 I've been consciously trying to not give books five stars unless I really truly mean it and I do mean it with this one。 As someone who is new to the practice of witch/hearthcraft, I found this book incredibly helpful and full of a lot of really good information。 If you're new to your practice and you want to incorporate it more into your home, I definitely recommend this title。 。。。more

3。5 starsThis book reads like the author was writing a Kitchen Witch book, but ran out of stuff to talk about so she made it a Hearth Witch-esk book。 I'm not saying this book is bad by any means。 My only real complaint is that she uses the term smudging and recommends white sage。 But this did mostly focus on kitchen magick and less so on other areas of the home。 I would've like more focus on other areas of the home and how to turn your already established habits around the home into something mo 3。5 starsThis book reads like the author was writing a Kitchen Witch book, but ran out of stuff to talk about so she made it a Hearth Witch-esk book。 I'm not saying this book is bad by any means。 My only real complaint is that she uses the term smudging and recommends white sage。 But this did mostly focus on kitchen magick and less so on other areas of the home。 I would've like more focus on other areas of the home and how to turn your already established habits around the home into something more magickal。Also there was a weird part in the middle where she seems to bash the fact that women joined the workforce。 Because that made house work seem less important。 That part made me feel icky, but I can understand what she was trying to say 。。。more

One to come back to Although sitting down and reading it cover to cover was enjoyable it is definitely a book to return to to absorb all that was in it。 Particularly toward the end。 Thank you

Would be better as a physical reference book。

While there was some I liked in this book I felt myself finding it hard to continue reading or to feel like I was finding what I was looking for in House Witchery。 I felt like while there were things added that were relevant that it was all over the place for a small book。 Some people may like that many deities or other beings associated with the hearth are discussed but to me it felt like stuffing to make a short book longer。 I did not get the feeling of house witchery here。

Anni

It was alright。 The book doesn't really go in depth when it comes to Hearth Witchcraft, but it provides some basic information, as well as recipes and myths。 I think it serves more as an introduction than an actual guide, but I'll definitely come back to some of the parts of the book again。 It was alright。 The book doesn't really go in depth when it comes to Hearth Witchcraft, but it provides some basic information, as well as recipes and myths。 I think it serves more as an introduction than an actual guide, but I'll definitely come back to some of the parts of the book again。 。。。more

Interesting information。 Not really a fun way to read it more like here's this info。 While I dont practice magic I really like the focus of intention and manifestation into every day tasks。 This is something I'd like to bring into my life。 Interesting information。 Not really a fun way to read it more like here's this info。 While I dont practice magic I really like the focus of intention and manifestation into every day tasks。 This is something I'd like to bring into my life。 。。。more

This book is great for people who have a spiritual focus more so than a ceremonial magic focus。 It's a book that nearly anyone can get some benefit from, but it's especially beneficial for full-time homemakers! -Very skimable -Loved the parts on the hearth and cauldron -Some parts seemed like fillers such as listing every single house god/spirit-The parts where the author describes what you need to have in your home and the spells for good energy are where the book succeeds

Beginner-Oriented, But Some Good Ideas for the ExperiencedI think I would have appreciated this book more a few years ago, as it's styling the same thing as many others。 Leandra Witch woods Kitchen Magic is a better book than this one, Murphy-Hiscock is a bit too apologetic and light for me。 Beginner-Oriented, But Some Good Ideas for the ExperiencedI think I would have appreciated this book more a few years ago, as it's styling the same thing as many others。 Leandra Witch woods Kitchen Magic is a better book than this one, Murphy-Hiscock is a bit too apologetic and light for me。 。。。more
